Ease of Use
Like many other dehumidifiers on the market, the Sunpentown SD-71E is able to remove up to 70 pints of moisture per day. While Sunpentown may not be as well-known as other manufacturers such as Frigidaire, the SD-71E should definitely not have this held against it.
What sized room is the SD-71E suitable for?
The unit, according to the manufacturer, performs optimally in rooms or areas that are up to 550 Sq. Ft; in other words, large-sized rooms and spaces. However, the SD-71E can even be used be in areas as large as 1,200 square feet, although of course not quite as effectively as in smaller sized areas.
How easy is it to control the humidity?
Maintaining your optimal humidity is very easy with the Sunpentown. All you have to do is choose your desired humidity level using the on-board humidistat, select Auto operation, and you’re good to go. The unit dehumidifies until your desired humidity level is reached. Then, the compressor works to save energy while the fan runs continuously by powering down.
Is the filter washable?
Yes, the filter is washable. A washable filter is fitted for two reasons: to keep maintenance costs down, and ensure that using the unit is as simple as possible.
How loud is the unit when in operation?
Dehumidifiers can get very loud and even if a unit is able to remove moisture from the air efficiently and effectively, the trade-off simply isn’t worth it, according to a number of consumers. Fortunately, the Sunpentown is one of the quietest dehumidifiers on the market. Even on its highest fan speed setting the sound is equivalent to the “hum” of a refrigerator.
Is there an Automatic Defrost Function?
There is an Automatic Defrost function. While the unit is able to perform at its optimal level in temperatures down to 41 degrees F, an automatic defrost function is able to melt any frost that has built up internally in order to reduce downtime.
Is the Sunpentown SD-71E Energy Star-Qualified?
Yes, the SD-71E is Energy Star-Qualified which is great news if you’re looking for a dehumidifier that runs cheaply. As mentioned earlier, due to the way in which the unit works – the unit dehumidifies until your desired humidity level is reached. Then, the compressor works to save energy while the fan runs continuously by powering down – the energy used is equivalent to that of a light bulb.
Are there any other features?
Other features include a soft-touch electronic control panel, enabling you to choose your settings easily and precisely; an automatic restart function which automatically restarts the unit using your previously programmed settings in the event of a power failure; a carrying handle and casters so you can move the unit from room to room more easily; and a time delay protection for the compressor which works to protect the compressor from unnecessary wear and tear.

Our only issue is that, putting the water bucket back in place once emptied can be a little tricky; however, after having done this a few times you should get the hang of it.
